Hankook asks to cancel recall of tires with labeling errors

Hankook Tire America has filed a "minor non-compliance" of 175 Hankook Dynapro MT2 light truck tires with Federal Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 139.

Dynapro MT2 tires in size LT215 / 85R16 have a labeling error - the number of nylon tread layers is incorrect. According to this marking, tires have two steel, two polyester and one nylon belt layers, as well as two polyester layers in the sidewall. The tires actually have two nylon layers instead of one.

The tires in question were manufactured between October 20 and November 30, 2019 at one of Hankook's factories.

In an appeal to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Hankook notes that incorrect information on the number of belt layers does not affect the safety of vehicles on which the tires are installed, and that the quality of the tires meets the requirements of the FMVSS 139 standard. The Korean manufacturer asks not to recall the management tires due to an error in marking.

In addition, the company states that it is not aware of any tire claims or incidents or accidents involving tires.
