Synthetic polymer manufacturer Trinseo Inc. entered into a commercial cooperation agreement with the Swiss tire recycling company Tire Recycling Solutions S.A. (TRS). The goal of the collaboration is to accelerate the development of sustainable synthetic rubber formulations through increased use of recycled tires.
The parties will collaborate on research and development and pool their technological expertise to help global tire manufacturers develop more sustainable compound formulas. Trinseo also plans to invest in TRS as part of the deal.
“This collaboration is critical to developing real sustainable solutions for the tire and rubber industry,” said Francesca Reverberi, vice president of synthetic rubbers at Trinseo. “As a leading supplier of synthetic rubber to the tire industry, we are committed to helping our customers achieve their sustainability goals. We believe that the most successful way to achieve this is through collaboration throughout the value chain. Partnering with TRS will provide us with high quality recycled tire raw materials. ”
TRS has been working with Trinseo for several years. According to TRS CEO Staffan Ahlgren, this partnership is "a testament to the great success that has been achieved since the company was founded."
TRS was founded in 2013 with the goal of creating global solutions for the collection and recycling of old tires using innovative technologies and business processes. TRS uses a process of water jet grinding of raw materials, as a result of which a high-quality rubber powder is obtained, suitable for use in the production of various industrial rubber products, as well as rubber compounds.
The Trinseo range of synthetic rubbers includes emulsion and solution styrene-butadiene rubber (e-SBR and s-SBR), marketed under the Buna and Sprintan brand names. The production is located in Schkopau, Germany.
