Maxam Tire North America plans to increase its investment in the extra-large industrial tire segment after it recently successfully introduced its first 63-inch tire, the MS453.
Designed for oversized trucks, the MS453 tire features an aggressive tread pattern, reinforced sidewall and high-strength construction, making it suitable for “the toughest challenges on mining and logging roads,” Maxam says.
The tire has been in development for over a year and a half. It is manufactured using a patented two-step method that includes an improved process for placing the belt and tread onto the tire carcass to reduce the risk of warping.
The MS453 tire has already been extensively tested at mines in Nevada.
The company believes it has excellent growth opportunities in the extra-large tire segment. “We believe there is a huge free niche in the market for this product,” said Matt Johnson, vice president of Maxam Mining Group. “Maxam is committed to quality, not quantity, and we want customers to be able to use our products more efficiently and lower their production costs. Therefore, we are determined to become a major player in the mining tire segment as well as other segments. ”
Many mining companies, Johnson said, have already returned to full capacity following a forced suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so the company expects demand to rise in the extra-large industrial tire segment in 2021 and over the next few years.
Maxam is also currently developing another 63-inch tire in the 59/80 R63 size. The novelty will be ready in 2021.
