Get ready to roll with some exciting news from the tire industry's sustainability front. American Tire Distributors, Inc. (ATD), one of the nation’s foremost tire distributors, has unveiled its third annual sustainability report, titled 'Catalysts for Change.' This pivotal report documents ATD's substantial strides towards sustainability and its role as an industry leader in this domain during 2022.
Understanding the importance of incorporating sustainable strategies into its business model, ATD has demonstrated how sustainability not only enriches the business itself but also adds immense value to stakeholders inside and outside of the company. Through its profound commitment to enhance the environment, nurture its communities, and bolster its governance, ATD is reinventing the wheel, driving the circular tire economy forward.
The jubilant ATD President and CEO, Stuart Schuette, shared his thoughts, "We've really outdone ourselves last year, and the results are here for everyone to see in this report." Echoing the theme 'Catalysts for Change,' Schuette praised ATD's efforts to usher in a sustainable future for not just the company, but for the entire automotive aftermarket industry.
Diving into the specifics, ATD's sustainability roadmap revolves around energy and carbon management; recycling and the circular economy; fleet sustainability and efficient logistics; data security and privacy; diversity, equity and inclusion, and employee health, safety and wellbeing. Some notable accomplishments from 2022 are:
Pioneering a tire recycling solution that enables ATD to fully embrace the circular economy. This resulted in nearly 150,000 recycled units and an impressive cut in CO2e emissions - equivalent to sparing 1.6 million pounds of coal from burning.
Harnessing solar power at the Field Support Center in Huntersville, North Carolina, meeting a third of its electricity needs.
Advancing safety measures, including the deployment of enhanced collision-avoidance technology for new fleet vehicles and heightened procedures to increase Power Industrial Truck operator safety.
Achieving diversity with a 45% diverse associate base in 2022, a jump from 41% in the previous year.
Successfully raising a whopping $1.5 million for the Gary Sinise Foundation, extending support to active military, veterans, and first responders.
Despite economic uncertainties, supply chain disruptions, and inventory issues, Schuette expressed pride in ATD's achievements, and eagerly anticipates what's next on their journey. This is indeed a thrilling continuation of ATD's unwavering commitment to our communities and our planet.
So, as the tire industry moves into a more sustainable and inclusive future, ATD is leading the way. And we can't wait to see how far they'll roll!
