Schwalbe and BASF develop puncture-resistant tire tubes

German bicycle tire manufacturer Schwalbe and chemical concern BASF SE have developed a new generation of bicycle tubes that they say offer "a whole new level of puncture protection."

The Aerothan bicycle camera, which entered the market on October 8, is based entirely on BASF Elastollan's thermopolyurethane (TPU) brand and is 100% recyclable.

The novelty is announced as a high quality alternative to conventional bicycle cameras; it is lightweight (about 40% lighter than traditional cameras), high performance and ease of installation and use. The new cycle tube also provides a high level of puncture safety and stable performance even at low tire pressure. The material used is highly resistant to abrasion and wear, as well as lightness, flexibility, elasticity and resistance to temperature fluctuations.

The new cameras offer great versatility and are suitable for racing, mountain and city bikes.

At the end of their tire life, Aerothan tubes can be returned to Schwalbe as part of its recycling program. Old tire tubes are recycled and reused as sealing or insulation material.
