Goodyear and TuSimple launch a joint project

Goodyear announces a strategic partnership with TuSimple, an unmanned cargo technology company. Partners will develop tires and tire maintenance solutions for the TuSimple Autonomous Freight Network (AFN).

Through the partnership, Goodyear will provide products and services that improve the safety and efficiency of self-driving trucks. In addition, the companies will work together to conduct tire wear research to understand how to better predict the maintenance of trucks, how to increase the life of tires for such vehicles and reduce the emissions of vehicle fleets. The data collected during the study should also help understand how differently the tires installed on the self-driving truck and on the truck driven by a person function.

TuSimple launched the AFN project in July 2020 to provide reliable, low-cost freight transportation in 48 US states through the use of self-driving trucks.

“Robot trucks offer revolutionary benefits for both shipping companies and fleets themselves,” said Robert Brown, director of external relations at TuSimple. “One of the main benefits is the increased payload achieved by the fact that autonomous trucks can operate almost continuously. With such a sharp increase in the operating time of transport, it becomes necessary to better understand the requirements for its preventive maintenance. "
