Michelin becomes the exclusive tire supplier for the most powerful production car ever produced by a German manufacturer, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series. A car with an innovative 730 hp V8 engine. from. set a new road car record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife (20.832 km) in 6 minutes 48.047 seconds.
The new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series with state-of-the-art electronic control and racing aerodynamics is a real challenge for the Michelin team. As part of the cooperation, two versions of the tires have been developed: the first as an OE for both public roads and the race track (soft compound, MO1A). The second version is exclusively for the racetrack (hard rubber compound, MO2) and is available as a modification at AMG centers.
The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R version, offered as an OE (soft), delivers the highest level of performance, allowing the driver to enjoy breathtaking driving on the track. The rigid version contributes to cornering stability at high speeds and at higher temperatures. This ensures consistently excellent performance, round and round.
Both versions of the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R are road certified (MO2 only) in the US and Europe.
Michelin engineers worked tirelessly for months with Mercedes technicians to unleash the full potential of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series. The tire and performance requirements that Mercedes-AMG required required the Michelin developers to make specific model-specific solutions.
Initial development was based on the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R supersport tire, which has already earned several records for Michelin. Then the developers gradually redesigned its design. New custom solutions have increased the lateral rigidity, which is important for the stability of high-performance vehicles.
The resulting tire is ideally suited to the high demands of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series and is capable of delivering all the performance and driving pleasure a car has to offer.
The new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series has been developed in accordance with the GT3 racing model, which participates in many series of motorsport championships around the world.
After refining the tire design, Michelin engineers paid attention to the choice of rubber compound. They took advantage of the company's solutions already on the track to combine excellent performance, affordability and easy handling.
With years of experience in motorsport such as the World Endurance Championship, 24 Hours of Le Mans, IMSA WeatherTech in the USA, Super GT in Japan and numerous GT3 races, Michelin has gained unparalleled experience and expertise in the development of racing tires for GT cars.
This unique legacy is also the basis for the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R for the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series in two flavors, soft and hard, a terminology often used in the racing world.
Both versions of the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tire for the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series feature specific design elements and stylish, recognizable sidewalls.
