Michelin will continue to develop the Simatlab R&D laboratory

The Simatlab R&D lab, jointly run by tire manufacturer Michelin and the Institute of Chemistry of Clermont-Ferrand (ICCF), will continue to work on material modeling in a new four-year project.

The laboratory was established in May 2017 to accelerate the development of new polymer materials and predict their behavior at the structural and molecular levels. Among the scientific tasks of the laboratory is to show the possibilities of digital technologies in the design of advanced materials.

According to Michelin, new participants will join the project at the new stage of the partnership, and the laboratory will expand its research areas, which will now also include medicine and hydrogen energy.

The CHU de Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital becomes the new academic partner of Simatlab; she will be joined by a multidisciplinary team of chemists, physicists, pharmacists and mathematicians.

In addition, SimatLab is implementing a new pilot structure for admitting non-academic associate members. This will allow work on special research topics conducted by third parties, including industry and companies.

Michelin expects this to increase the laboratory's research capabilities. SimatLab will offer a wide range of services for the development of innovative materials.
