Independent testing by Mesilla Valley Transportation Solutions (MVTS) has confirmed the excellent fuel efficiency of the Michelin Energy Guard when paired with Michelin X One tires. The total fuel efficiency of this combination is about 64 liters of fuel per 1600 km (17 gallons per 1000 miles).
The tests involved two International LT tractors with 15-liter Cummins ISX engines and an automated manual transmission, transporting two universal 16-meter dry cargo containers. The total weight of this combination is 32 tons. Before testing, the machines were thoroughly checked and regularly maintained.
Tractors and trailers were fitted with wide single tires: one was fitted with Michelin X Line Energy Z (on the steering axle), Michelin X One Line Energy D (on the drive axle) and Michelin X One Line Energy T (on the trailer), on the other competing brand tires were installed. All tires participating in the test were SmartWay certified.
As a result, a set of Michelin X One tires saved 25 liters of fuel per 1,600 kilometers (6.5 gallons per 1000 miles), while the combination of tires and the Michelin Energy Guard system increased the result to 64 liters (17 gallons). For the year, fuel costs, thus, can be reduced by 12.6%, or by $5.1 thousand in terms of a truck.
