Nokian Intuitu smart tires

The adoption of digital technology in heavy equipment tires is making significant improvements to driving and fleet management. Last November, Nokian Tyres unveiled the Intuitu smart tires at the Agritechnica 2019 trade fair in Hanover. Intuitu digital technology will now be available to fit select farm and tractor tires for contract work; sales will start in Finland.

The target audience was very warm about the new technological solution - Nokian Tires Intuitu smart tires, presented by Nokian Tyres. The ease of installation deserves special praise: all that is required is smart tires equipped with sensors and a mobile application that displays pressure and temperature readings in them.

“Fleet directors are delighted to be able to receive critical tire health information and alarm alerts with a new solution that does not require time-consuming setup,” says Matthew Crocker, Product Director of Nokian Tyres. "Premium segment tractor tires are investments that require careful maintenance."

The digital advantage

At this stage, Nokian Tyres Intuitu technology includes sensor-equipped smart tires and a mobile app. All you need to get started is to place an order for smart tires and download the app. Smart tires are registered in the Intuitu app on any vehicle equipped with this type of tire. The application displays the current tire position, pressure and temperature level in them. The owner of the vehicle fleet can invite any number of drivers to use the application and connect any number of vehicles to it, as needed. The technology provides the driver with up-to-date data and alerts about the condition of the tires of the current vehicle, and the director of the fleet with consolidated analytical data to get the most out of the tires and vehicles used. In addition, vehicle manufacturers are reaping the added value of smart, put-and-play tires that benefit customers and increase customer loyalty. What's more, registering smart tires in the Intuitu app extends the warranty period.

“Up-to-date tire health data can help save fuel and improve operational safety,” says Matthew Crocker. “The full potential of digital technology is far from being explored yet, and we have a number of great ideas in the pipeline!”

Intuitu smart tires have undergone extensive testing and have already become an important part of production in the day-to-day work of the companies where they are tested. Finnish utility contractor Jari Swantaust uses smart Intuitu tires in its fleet of three utility tractors. Digital buses have brought improvements to his company.

“Nokian Tyres Intuitu technology makes it easier to obtain tire health data and saves money,” says Jari Swontausta. "The morning fuss with the pressure gauge is a thing of the past, because now I can check the condition of the tires by looking at my phone once."

Jari was impressed with the ease and speed with which tire problems can now be solved using Nokian Tyres Intuitu technology. “There are sometimes a lot of nails and metal debris in the work areas, so punctures are not uncommon here,” explains Jari. “If you notice a hole in time, it’s easy and inexpensive to fix it, but if you don’t react to the problem in time, it can completely destroy even a very expensive tire.”

Sales of Nokian Tyres Intuitu smart tires will gradually expand, starting in Finland, where the technology will be rolled out to four main types of tractor tires: Nokian Ground King, Nokian TRI 2, Nokian Hakkapeliitta TRI and Nokian Tractor King. Our tire factory will begin shipping the first smart tires this September, at which time the Intuitu app will be available for download. Initially, orders for smart buses can be placed in the Vianor dealer network, while other dealer networks will be connected gradually. The smart bus will be shipped within normal delivery times.

“Finland is our home market, and Finnish customers are always eager to test the company's new technologies,” explains Manu Salmi, senior vice president and managing director of Nokian Heavy Tires. "We have drawn up a phased plan to expand sales to other countries."

Manu Salmi talks with visible enthusiasm about the first steps taken by the company in a completely new world of digital technology. “After years of testing and research and development, we have come to an exciting moment when we can provide our customers with new digital technologies that will transform work execution,” says Manu Salmi. - Our goal is to provide customers with professional peace of mind by improving safety, productivity and sustainability
