Continental develops new technology for the production of motorcycle tires

Continental AG company has developed a new technology for the production of motorcycle tires without the use of mold release coatings. According to the manufacturer, this improves the grip of the tires.

A technology called TractionSkin is used at the Continental AG plant in Korbach to produce the Conti Attack tires. It allows the use of a special coating on the tire mold, thanks to which the tire can be removed from the mold without the use of a release agent. In a conventional process, the rubber tube is coated with a special release agent during vulcanization to ensure that it does not stick to the tire.

According to Conti, the new technology tires provide "outstanding grip from the very first kilometer." This means motorcyclists using Conti Attack tires do not need to make extra laps to remove any residual production tire coating.

However, Conti warns that on new tires created with TractionSkin technology, harsh acceleration and braking and excessive lean should be avoided initially.

“Initially, the tire requires a moderate and even load to achieve optimal performance after vulcanization at the factory and to adapt to the operating conditions,” explained Volker Plett of Continental Motorcycle Tire Support.
