New Pirelli tires debut in the WRC

Pirelli's new tires, destined for the next World Rally Championship (WRC) season, will be used for the first time during a shakedown ahead of the Sardinia event on 8-11 October.

The new Pirelli Scorpion KX will be fitted to the Citroen C3 WRC in the colors of the tire brand, driven by Andreas Mikkelsen, hired by Pirelli as a test driver. The Norwegian will run several races with reporters to showcase the new tires' abilities on the coarse gravel of Olmedo's 3.79 km section. In three days, Petter Solberg will ride the final 6.89 km Sassari-Argentiero section on the new tires. Citroen, "shod" in the new Pirelli, will be the first to enter the track for a demonstration run before the start of the race itself. Mikkelsen will be the navigator this time.

“Of course, this is not a tire debut in the race, and we just wanted to show what the new Scorpion KX are capable of at their home stage to journalists and fans,” said Terenzio Testoni, head of Pirelli's rally program. "It will be great to see Petter come back with us to the racetrack."
