Bridgestone tires homologated for Lamborghini supercar

Italian automaker Lamborghini has selected Bridgestone as its OE tire supplier for the new Lamborghini Huracán STO supercar, which will hit the market in 2021.

For the Huracán STO, a special version of the Potenza range has been produced. Bridgestone engineers focused on introducing new technologies and optimizing the tread pattern in accordance with the requirements of the sports car. Potenza tires have an asymmetrical tread pattern for improved steering precision and responsiveness, as well as lateral stability. The redesigned internal structure makes the pressure distribution more even in the contact patch during cornering, and the new compound enhances traction.

The tires were successfully developed on schedule, despite the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, thanks to close collaboration with Lamborghini and the use of virtual simulation technology.

The Huracan STO will start production in early 2021. In addition to Potenza road tires, Bridgestone will also supply the supercar with a version of the tire designed primarily for racing tracks, but also homologated for road use. Powered by motorsport technology, this version will enhance the vehicle's performance, especially on dry road surfaces, Bridgestone notes.

“It was a pleasure for our company to work so closely with Lamborghini for the first time on such an exciting project,” commented Steven De Bock, Vice President of Passenger Tires, Bridgestone EMIA. “The Huracan STO supercar is a masterpiece of engineering, worthy of exclusive tires capable of unleashing its full potential. I am proud to say that Bridgestone has been able to produce tires of this level. It was very exciting for us to be involved in a project that is in many ways at the forefront of automotive technology.”
