Nokian launches new summer tire Nordman SX3

Nokian Tires renews its Nordman summer tire range in the mid-price segment. The new Nokian Nordman SX3 is designed for small family cars and offers balanced handling and durability.

The new summer tires Nokian Nordman SX3 are equally comfortable both in rainy weather and on dry asphalt. Coanda's tread pattern guides the movement of water and accelerates the outflow between the tire and the road, effectively preventing aquaplaning. The platform for the new model of the Nordman line was the innovative solutions of the premium line Hakka - the already well-proven tread pattern was used and a new rubber compound was developed.

The rugged tire construction and new tread compound, designed for rough road surfaces, increase mileage and provide additional kilometers.

The Nokian Nordman SX3 tires will be available in a wide range of sizes from 13 to 16 inches with speed ratings T (190 km / h) and H (210 km / h) and are designed for small and medium-sized family cars. The key markets for Nokian Nordman summer tires are Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and the Nordic countries. The entire size range will be available to drivers in the spring of 2022.

The Nokian Nordman SX3's reliable safety features and excellent durability are achieved through a thoughtful tread design and a durable rubber compound specially designed for harsh road conditions and changeable summer weather.

“Safety and reliability are the qualities of summer tires that are most appreciated by drivers. The Nordman SX3's stable handling makes changing lanes easy and controlled. The tread compound is very good at withstanding rough asphalt and uneven roads. The innovative tread design provides additional safety in the event of sudden rainfall, ”says Marko Rantonen, Development Manager at Nokian Tires.

The densely padded outer shoulder of the tire remains rigid in contact with the road for precise and stable handling. Blade Grooves' aggressive feather grooves that widen towards the inner shoulder traverse massive ribs in the center section, effectively retaining water and directing it towards the longitudinal grooves. Coanda technology accelerates water drainage from the longitudinal groove and effectively prevents aquaplaning.

“The bending of the tread blocks on the inner shoulder of the tire directs and accelerates the outflow of water from the circumferential groove into the lateral groove and then outwardly. We apply the well-known Coanda effect, based on the property of the flow to change direction depending on the shape of the surface. The Coanda effect has also been used successfully in other industries, for example to improve the aerodynamics of the wings of aircraft and Formula 1 cars, ”explains Marko Rantonen.

The expanding Trumpet Grooves in the shoulder areas also accumulate water and accelerate its removal from the lateral grooves - this provides double the effectiveness against aquaplaning. The tires maintain excellent performance and prevent aquaplaning for their entire service life.

The new tread compound easily adapts to changing temperatures and driving conditions. The rubber compound has increased resistance to cuts and punctures, protects the tire structure from stone blows, which provides additional wear resistance and mileage.

The Silent Groove Design innovation reduces tire noise and enhances acoustic comfort in the vehicle interior. The semi-circular, golf-ball-shaped notches on the longitudinal ribs also reduce air resistance, which contributes to lower fuel consumption.

Safe tires are an important element of road culture. A digital tread wear indicator (DSI) on the center rib of the tire reflects the condition of the tread. The largest visible number on the indicator indicates the current depth of the tread grooves in millimeters, the “drop” symbol warns of an increased risk of aquaplaning when the tread depth is less than 4 mm.

To ensure safety, there is also a special information area on the sidewall of the tire, where you can make a note about the recommended pressure and position of the tire on the car, as well as indicate the tightening torque of the bolts.
