The Taiwanese Kenda presented at the SEMA exhibition, which is now taking place in Las Vegas, the new Kenda Klever M/T2 KR629 off-road tires, which, according to the company, have the most aggressive design in the history of the brand.
The company notes that the Klever M/T2 outperforms the tires of the previous generation in performance in mud, on stones and on loose surfaces, as well as in handling and lateral stability on dry and wet asphalt. Aggressive upper sidewall design has been developed to protect against cuts and tears, stone and mud repellents are located between the blocks, while bucket-shaped shoulder lugs are designed to both improve off-road flotation and enhance the appearance of the tire. In turn, the compound is a modified version of the Klever R/T rubber compound, which also features increased wear resistance.
The novelty replaces the Kenda Klever M/T model, about which the company said that it is still in good demand in the market, but has reached the end of its life cycle. “We are changing the M / T of the first generation precisely because it is a very good tire, and improving its size and performance will make the new model a more attractive choice compared to other brands that perform well in the market,” said Brandon Stozenburg. Vice President of Kenda Automotive Tire Division. “The market wants a product with premium features and an affordable price, and we compared them to our top competitors.”
“To develop a tire that meets the stringent requirements of this segment, we have conducted numerous tests over two years in various conditions from rocky terrain in Arizona and dirt tracks in the Midwest to the California deserts,” added Al Henderson, senior designer for Kenda America.
The Kenda Klever M/T2 will be available from the end of next spring in 20 of the most requested sizes, and 13 more sizes, including 40 and 42 inches outside diameter, will be on sale by the end of summer 2021. The size range will be roughly the same as the Klever R/T, but with more sizes at 16 inches, Stozenburg said.
He also added that the 35- and 37-inch tires will be available with red lettering on the sidewalls, while the 40-inch version will be made from a special “grippy off-road” compound and the lettering will be more prominent.
The tires will be manufactured at the Kenda plant in Vietnam, where production of all tires for North America has been moved this year, due to an increase in import duties on Taiwan-made tires in the United States.
