Iran raises tire production

Tire production in Iran increased by 27% in the first five months of this year according to the Iranian calendar (March 20 to August 21, 2020) compared to the same period last year.

According to analysts, the country produced 115.9 thousand tons of tires, or 10.23 million units, which is 26% more than last year. 62.9 thousand tons of products fell on passenger tires, which is 28% more than last year. In addition, production of light commercial tires increased by 13% - up to 9.2 thousand tons. Also in Iran, 21.2 thousand tons of bus tires were produced, which is 10% higher than last year's level. In addition, the production of tires for light agricultural machinery jumped by 123% (up to 2.2 thousand tons) and by 42% - for heavy agricultural machinery (up to 7.8 thousand tons). Also, local manufacturers increased the production of industrial tires by 17% (up to 2.4 thousand tons) and by 80% - tires for two-wheeled vehicles (up to 772 tons).

In August, a spokesman for Iran's Ministry of Industry, Mining and Trade said that increasing investment in tire production in the country was a necessity. Kamran Kargar, acting head of planning, supply and market regulation, said that demand for tires in Iran has increased markedly due to the country's large transport fleet.

Currently, there are 11 tire manufacturing enterprises in the country, employing about 14.5 thousand people. The nominal total production capacity is 426,000 tons, while the actual capacity is less than this figure, as some factories operate at 60-70% of their capacity, including due to lack of raw materials.
