Pyramids Tires opens new tire plant in Egypt

A local tire company Pyramids Tires, located in Port Said, began operations in Egypt. It is reportedly the first tire plant built in the country in 25 years.

The plant began production of light truck, motorcycle, agricultural and industrial tires in May this year; it is planned that in the coming years it will create about 5,000 jobs.

The company's management did not disclose details about the plant and its investors, although one of the local media outlets previously mentioned the Japanese company Sumitomo Corp in connection with the project. However Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. not related to the project.

The video posted on the new company's Facebook page showcases a one-story tire factory that houses not only tire production, but also a rubber mixing shop, steel cord preparation, a laboratory and tire testing equipment, and so on. The new company uses the slogan “Made by us. For us ”to highlight the local nature of production.

The company also reportedly began exporting tires to other African countries - Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and Iraq. In the future, Pyramids Tires hopes to export its products to Europe and the United States, and also intends to increase the capacity of the enterprise and establish the production of passenger, truck and bus tires.

Port Said is a city of about 600,000 people located in the north-east of Egypt on the Mediterranean coast, at the entrance to the Suez Canal.

The Pyramids Tires plant in Port Said is the third tire plant in Egypt. In addition, the country has a plant in Alexandria, which is owned by Prometeon and produces truck tires, and a TRENCO (Transport & Engineering Co.) plant in the Smuha region, where passenger and truck / bus tires are produced under the Nisr brand.
