UK to ban sales of low quality tires

The UK government plans to ban the sale of tires that do not meet the required performance criteria under EU regulations.

Earlier in June this year, the government proposed strengthening compliance with minimum tire performance requirements. The UK Department of Transport then set a deadline of 1 May 2021 - after that date, sales of tires that do not meet EU requirements for wet grip, rolling resistance and noise will cease in the country. After May 1, 2021, there will be a 30-month period allowing the installation of such tires on new cars, as well as their production.

The sale of such tires in the UK was not previously considered an offense, but now penalties will be applied for it, the Department of Transport said.
