The famous Goodyear airship returns to European racing 35 years after it was last seen over a circuit in Europe.
The airship, which appeared regularly in Formula 1 and Le Mans races in the 1970s and 1980s, will once again be seen in Europe to celebrate Goodyear's return to European and international motorsport.
First, the airship will appear in France, where the 24 Hours of Le Mans race will take place on September 19-20, and then in Germany, at the Nürburgring, where the WTCR race will take place during the Nürburgring 24 Hours race weekend.
The Goodyear airship will provide live television coverage of events on the track, as well as represent the Goodyear brand returning to European motorsport. Goodyear is the exclusive tire supplier for every WTCR vehicle.
Between 1972 and 1986, the Goodyear Europa airship appeared at the highest level of sporting events, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the German Grand Prix and the French Open; in addition, the airship was present at two British royal weddings.
The Goodyear airship, which can be seen in Europe, was created by Zeppelin NT. It is the largest airship in the world today with a semi-rigid structure: it is 75 meters long, 19.5 meters wide, and 17.4 meters high.
