Bridgestone has developed exclusive Potenza tires for the new mid-engined supercar Maserati MC20, designed to improve handling, controllability and dynamic performance, the tire company said.
“During the development phase of this amazing new model, Maserati needed premium sports tires with exceptional performance,” says Bridgestone. “Our company, a longtime partner of Maserati, took up this challenge, and as a result, specially prepared Potenza tires were created.”
The MC20 has been prepared with an asymmetric design for improved responsiveness and stability when maneuvering, while a new compound has increased grip and a modified internal structure ensures uniform pressure distribution across the contact patch in all situations.
“The new tires, designed, tested and manufactured in Europe, meet the highest Maserati requirements and enable the MC20 to fully exploit the power, control and sporting potential of the MC20,” said Stephen De Bock, Vice President, Bridgestone Passenger Car Tires EMIA (Europe , Middle East, India and Africa).
During the project, Bridgestone's R&D team used the latest virtual modeling technologies to reduce the time required to create new products, reduce the resources required and bring new tires to market faster. Similar technologies are used by Maserati, and thanks to this, the design of the MC20 was developed in 24 months.
“The MC20 project marks another chapter in the history of the partnership between Bridgestone and Maserati, sharing a common passion for innovation and excellence,” said Federico Landini, Head of Sports Cars, Maserati. “Both the car and the tires were designed in Italy and they fit together perfectly. Bridgestone has developed sports tires that truly enhance the MC20's incredible performance.”
