Sumitomo South Africa will help Google Street View

Sumitomo Rubber South Africa is helping fill in the gaps in Google Street View maps and is participating in Dunlop Grandtrek Uncharted, a massive South African project to improve the occupancy of the Street View platform.

The travel route ran along country and dirt roads in all nine provinces of South Africa. The shooting was carried out using a special camera with a 360-degree view. Dunlop AT3G, AT25 and AT5 tires were used on the journey to successfully overcome many kilometers of bad roads.

The Dunlop Grandtrek AT5 offers great versatility with 50% more mileage, 25% better braking performance, reduced noise levels and good cross-country ability. The innovative Grandtrek AT3G tire is designed for off-road use. Its three-layer sidewall provides superior strength, increased load capacity and high cut and puncture resistance, which offers the tire a high level of safety and efficiency. Dunlop Grandtrek AT25 tires are used as OE on a range of vehicles, including the Toyota Fortuner and the Hilux Black Edition, and combine all three important SUV benefits: sidewall strength, off-road and on-road performance, and high resistance to punctures.

The Dunlop Grandtrek Uncharted project was inspired by the confidence that its tires allow for any journey. “The journey should be as exciting as the destination. We wanted to show our customers that our Grandtrek range of tires allows them to travel to places that even Google has never been to. We are very pleased because this is a unique solution that no tire manufacturer has thought of. With Dunlop Grandtrek you can hit the road even where there are no roads, ”said Riaz Haffejee, CEO of Sumitomo Rubber South Africa.
