GRI's new plant will help the company increase tire production

Industrial tire company Global Rubber Industries (GRI) has begun construction of a new rubber compounding plant in Mirigama, 25 km west of its tire plant in Badalgam, Sri Lanka.

The production capacity of the new enterprise will be 200 tons per day, which significantly exceeds the current capacity of 50-60 tons per day, which GRI has.

According to the company's management, the project will help meet the current demand for tires and will contribute to further capacity expansion. At the first stage, the GRI project will require an investment of 17 million euros.

The automated plant, equipped with best-in-class equipment, is due for completion in April 2021.

The plant, equipped with equipment from Germany's HF and Britain's Farrel, will be environmentally friendly and highly efficient.

According to the GRI, the company's current production capacity for the production of solid and pneumatic industrial tires is about 15,000 tons per year. In about a year, the company expects to increase production to 20,000 tons per year.

GRI manufactures tires for various agricultural and construction equipment, as well as solid tires at the Badalgam plant. The plant began operations in January 2018 and cost GRI €32 million. The plant has 1.2 MW solar panels, a biomass boiler house and highly efficient waste recycling and water management systems. The factory produces the Green XLR radial tires and the Green XLR F77 Floatation tires.
