Nokian Tire Factory received LEED eco-certification

Nokian Tyres, which recently celebrated the first anniversary of its North American plant, announced the opening of a new eco-friendly office building at the site, as well as the LEED v4 Silver eco-certification.

The LEED v4 Silver, according to the Finnish tire manufacturer, is a testament to the manufacturing plant's low emissions, high energy efficiency and successful compliance with stringent environmental standards. Smart building automation saves energy, while efficient water and waste management systems significantly reduce waste and allow water to be reused in production. The plant also has solar panels and electric car charging stations in the parking lot.

LEED certifications are awarded by the US Green Building Council for achievements in green building.

A new office building with an area of 26,000 sq. m. also uses solar energy - for this the company has installed solar panels with a capacity of 3 MW/h.

The plant, which will produce 4 million tires annually, should help Nokian double its sales in the North American market.
