Chinese company caught copying Dunlop Geomax MX52 tires

Sumitomo Rubber Industries is suing Chinese tire manufacturer Tiumsun Rubber Tire (Weihai) Co. Ltd., which it has accused of infringing its patent rights on the tread pattern of Dunlop Geomax MX52 motocross tires and Progressive Cornering Block Technology (PCBT).

According to Sumitomo, the dispute has already been resolved through the Beijing Intellectual Property Court.

Sumitomo claims that in January 2019, the company discovered Tiumsun tires on sale, with a pattern that mimics the pattern of the Dunlop Geomax MX52. The company then sued, demanding that Tiumsun Rubber Tire ban the production and sale of tires that infringe on its intellectual property rights. The lawsuit ended in amicable settlement as Tiumsun Rubber Tire admitted infringement of intellectual property rights and agreed to cease all further infringements and pay compensation.
