The Italian company Pirelli has unveiled its first winter bicycle tires, designed for both conventional and electric models. The novelty, called Pirelli CYCL-e Winter (WT), is based on technologies used by the company for passenger winter tires. A unique rubber compound was developed especially for the novelty, which retains elasticity at low temperatures and accelerates tire heating in winter conditions. When creating CYCL-e Winter, the growing high-speed capabilities of modern two-wheeled electric vehicles were also taken into account.
Pirelli CYCL-e Winter tires are designed for asphalt city streets in temperatures below freezing, as well as on lightly snowy roads. The tread pattern of the tire includes sipes that provide safe grip on snow and guarantee optimal control of movement on dry road surfaces. The tread of the new tire consists of two layers: the upper layer increases traction on the asphalt, and the lower layer increases puncture resistance. The thickness of the bottom layer is 3-3.5 mm, depending on the size of the tire, and its task is to prevent sharp stones and other foreign objects from entering the tread. A tire compound is made using crumb rubber obtained from old tires and an increased amount of natural rubber.
The Pirelli Cycl-e WT tires are available in sizes 37-622, 42-622 and 50-622 and in weights of 780 and 1110 g.
