India advocates anti-dumping duty on tires from Thailand

India's Commerce Department has recommended anti-dumping duties on certain types of radial tire imports from Thailand to protect domestic manufacturers from cheap products and unfair price competition.

The Ministry's General Directorate of Investigation has recommended a duty of up to $ 527.08 per tonne imported from Thailand to India "new pneumatic radial tires for buses and trucks." It is assumed that the duty will be in effect for five years.

Earlier, the Indian Automobile Tire Manufacturers Association submitted a statement on the need to check the import of tires from Thailand.

After the completion of the investigation, the Department of Commerce concluded that the tires were exported to India from Thailand at a price below normal. "The authorities recommend introducing an anti-dumping duty to eliminate the damage done to the domestic industry," the notice said.

The Ministry of Finance will take the final decision on the introduction of the duty, which will create a level playing field for all players in the Indian market.
