The head of Michelin spoke about the methods of overcoming the crisis

In a recent interview with Le Monde, Michelin Group CEO Florent Menegaux stated that France can overcome the industrial crisis if five conditions are "mandatory."

The key condition, according to Menego, is that business and government must follow the same path, and "the industry needs a stable regulatory and tax base." In addition, he said, “the challenge is not to save industries and products whose future is in jeopardy [...] We must invest in sectors in which France has a chance on the global stage.” In this case, priority should be given to “environmentally friendly activities with high added value”.

Another key challenge for the French industrial sector is change and adaptation to changing conditions.

“Industry is like a living organism - if it doesn't adapt, it will die,” said Florent Menego, noting that Michelin needs to “constantly adjust” its industrial presence to market realities.

He further described the European Union as “the only structure” in which France can maintain its competitiveness. For the EU to protect business, Menego said it will require "an ambitious common government policy and strict technological and environmental regulations."

Another important component of the recovery of the industry is the successful "overhaul" of the education and training system in France. Here we are talking about the development of vocational training and training for new professions, said the head of Michelin. In addition, he said, there is "an urgent need" for closer interaction between the economic sector and the education system, "so that young people understand that industry has a promising future for them."

The Michelin CEO concluded by emphasizing that "urgent action" is needed on all of this.

Such a move, Menego said, would save France from "the short-term contingency planning that has paralyzed the country for decades."
