Birla will look for ways to increase the performance of tires due to technical carbon and nano-cellulose

Mar 06, 2017

Biotechnology company American Process Inc. (API) and Birla Carbon signed an agreement on joint exploration of the use of a combination of carbon black and nano-cellulose to improve the performance and environmental safety of tires.

As stated by the Carbon Birla company, specializing in carbon black, initial studies suggest that a combination of carbon black and Birla nano-cellulose 'BioPlus' of the API can "significantly reduce the rolling resistance of tires."

The new partnership - part of the development strategy of Birla Carbon, which implies that the company will focus on the development of technologies for reducing the rolling resistance of materials.

According to Charles Herd, director of the Birla Carbon on soot for rubber compounds, "the mechanisms of interaction between carbon black and nano-cellulose offer an excellent opportunity to" enhance the performance characteristics and safety of tires.
