Mar 29, 2017

Apollo Tyres company is engaged in the creation of new tires for the defense industry in India.

Development, according to the manufacturer, goes with the participation of the Ministry of Defense of the country. Trial shipments have already begun, and regular shipments are scheduled for next year.

"Apollo Tyres has been supplying tires for the defense industry of India with a diagonal cord for a long time, and now we are in the process of developing new tires for military equipment. Their production will be set up at our factory in Chennai", said Satish Sharma, president of Apollo Tires in the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East and Africa.

To date, up to 60% of the demand for tires for the defense industry in India is met through imports. Now, the country's Defense Ministry wants to switch to local production of tires for its needs in order to reduce dependence on imports. Producers are selected through an open tender.

Now the Apollo Tyres plant in Chennai has a production capacity of 16,000 cars and 6,000 cargo / bus radial tires per day. In the future, the company plans to double the capacity for the production of truck tires - up to 12 thousand pieces a day.
