India's rubber companies are beginning to invest in the production of synthetic rubber, which is in great demand. In addition, tire manufacturers are urging the company to begin manufacturing its own solution of styrene-butadiene rubber (SSBR), which is required for high-performance tires. Under forecasts, sales of tires of this category in the near future will grow, and manufacturers want to prepare for this and provide themselves with the necessary raw materials.

By the end of 2016, the demand for synthetic rubber in India was 580,000 tons per year, which is primarily due to increased consumption of this raw material by the automotive sector of the country's industry.

This was announced at the World Rubber Summit-2017 conference by Juan Ramon Salinas, director and general manager of the non-profit organization International Institute of Synthetic Rubber Producers.

At the same time, the volume of production of synthetic rubber in the country amounted to 480 thousand tons per year. According to Mr. Solinas, India can switch to self-sufficiency with this raw material already in 2018, when the volume of synthetic rubber production by local companies will reach about 650 thousand tons per year.

Planned investments in the development of the industry will also expand the portfolio of products in the segment of synthetic rubbers.

In 2014 Indian company Indian Synthetic Rubber Pvt Ltd (ISRPL), which is one of the leaders in the production of rubbers in the country, has launched a project of the plant, which annually produces about 120,000 tons of styrene-butadiene rubber (ESBR) used for tires . In 2015, Reliance Group launched a plant to produce 150 thousand tons of ESBR-rubber per year. The total output of the enterprises will allow satisfying a part of the demand and bring to the market about 270 thousand tons of rubber per year.
