Avon Tyres took part in the restoration of the legendary stuntman's motorcycle

Avon Tyres has been involved in the precise restoration of a motorcycle that was ridden by renowned stunt performer Robert Craig "Evel" Knievel. After months of operation, the 1968 American Eagle Laverda bike, which Knievel did many stunts in the late 1960s and early 1970s, was displayed at the Evel Knievel Museum in Topeka, Kansas.

The motorcycle was found several years ago in Montana. He was found by Louis "Rocket" Re, also a stuntman and friend of the late Evel Knievel. The owner authorized Louis Ré to carry out the restoration and display the motorcycle at the Yvel Knievel Museum. During the repairs, Louis Re turned to Avon Tyres to verify the authenticity of the Avon Safety Mileage MKII tires fitted to the motorcycle. Avon checked the photographs and tire serial numbers and accurately confirmed the original equipment. Then, during the restoration of the motorcycle, Louis Re installed a new set of Safety Mileage MKII tires.

The modern version of the Avon Safety Mileage MKII combines classic looks with cutting edge performance. Although the blocks have a vintage look, the new tire design and construction provide improved grip, handling and stability.

The restored American Eagle Laverda motorcycle was officially delivered to the Knievel Museum and put on display. It will remain there for two years, after which it will be returned to its owner.

“We are delighted to be involved in a restoration project for such an iconic motorcycle,” said Dominic Clifford, Avon Tire Manager. “Our classic tire range, created with state-of-the-art technology, gives motorcycles an authentic look, and Safety Mileage MKII is no exception.”

Robert "Evel" Knievel is a renowned American stunt performer who was active from the 1960s to the 1980s and became world famous for his dizzying (and not always successful) motorcycle jumps. Evel's most famous stunts include jumping a motorcycle through the fountains of Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, jumping over the Snake River Canyon, jumping over 13 double-decker buses in London, jumping over 50 cars in Los Angeles, and so on. Over the course of his long career, Evel Knievel has received more than 400 fractures.
