Hankook Tire & Technology has been featured on the Dow Jones Sustainability World Indices (DJSI World) for the fifth consecutive year. The Dow Jones Sustainability World Index tracks the performance of the world's leading stocks in terms of economic, environmental and social criteria. DJSI indices are the most authoritative source of sustainability data for the investment community and the corporate sector. DJSI World is made up of corporate leaders in global sustainability and represents 10% of the top 2,500 enterprises in the S&P broad market stock index based on long-term economic factors, as well as OSVO data (environment, social issues, intracorporate relations).
This year, 323 companies were included in the DJSI World list, accounting for 12.7% of the 2540 largest companies in the world. It represents 17 Korean companies, with Hankook being the only Asian auto component company. The fact that Hankook has been ranked for the fifth year in a row is a testament to the tire manufacturer's expertise and experience in sustainable management and its leadership in the future of the industry.
This year, DJSI World is celebrating Hankook's outstanding achievements in social responsibility and supply chain management. Hankook has established seven dedicated corporate social responsibility (CSR) committees to share a vision of sustainability with employees and improve CSR initiatives across the company. In addition, the company encourages each committee to set the bar high and partner with various stakeholders to deliver CSR activities that can have a significant impact on society.
One of the corporate social responsibility projects launched by Hankook is investing in saving endangered wildlife in Daejeon, Korea, where the company's research and development center and manufacturing facilities are located. This project is aimed at preserving and restoring biodiversity, including a system of measures aimed at preserving rare and endangered species of flora and fauna and their habitats. The company supports social services and organizations that provide medical assistance, as well as assistance to children and adolescents in crisis situations and children from poor families.
Since 2018, Hankook has been pursuing a policy of economic, environmental and social sustainability in the natural rubber production chain. Hankook Tire works to improve the sustainability of natural rubber throughout its entire value chain, including farmers, merchants and processors. The company is working with internationally renowned tire consultants - NGOs, natural rubber suppliers, manufacturers and major customers - to develop its own Hankook Tire Natural Rubber Sustainability Policy (NRS).
In addition to DJSI World recognized activities, Hankook received a Gold Medal at the Galaxy Awards 2020 in the Annual Reports Online category for its CSR 2019-2020 report. The Galaxy Awards is an international marketing competition organized by MerComm Inc. in the United States, which celebrates advances in marketing communications.
As one of the world's leading tire companies, Hankook plans to expand its expertise and experience in sustainability management to the highest global level in order to ensure development continues to lead the way through systematic social contributions and sustainable management.
