Pirelli refused to take the blame for a boring F1 race

Feb 25, 2017

In anticipation of the 2017 season Pirelli company radically revises its approach to the creation of tires for F1: now they are much more durable, allowing riders to attack more. This is in line with recent changes in the regulations of F1, but is fundamentally different from what the company involved from the very moment of his return to the championship in 2011.

Racing Pirelli boss Paul Hemberi said many times before that the fans should prepare for a sharp reduction in the number of overtaking, as major changes in the regulations will lead to a further widening of the gap between the teams.

Speaking at an event in Turin on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of Pirelli, said Hemberi Motorsport.com, the new bus concept is not able to contribute to the good level of the show - while emphasizing that the Italian company itself to blame would be wrong.

"You can not make everyone happy, - he explained. - It is impossible to move in two directions at once. We act according to the plan that has been developed, and then it was decided to change to the opposite direction.

Our task - to simply do what is asked of us. We have always said that we wanted from F1 is only one - well-defined conditions. And we will not make excuses for what they did, if we do exactly what we asked for. Sport decided to move in the opposite direction. If everything works as planned, the race should be much better."

Pirelli continues a series of self-tests using a modified machine of 2015, but the tire manufacturers are increasingly fear that building a team "formula" does not provide the desired level of downforce - in addition, one car Sebastian Vettel recently pitched in Fiorano. It makes engineers increasingly use data from the simulator.

"The main difficulty - we lack the downforce - admitted Hemberi. - Because of this, we can not get the tires what we want, based on their own calculations. Admittedly, the "formula" does not meet our needs, but the simulator gives a sufficient amount of data. The only question is, so these data correspond with reality, with the way the new car will go. Quite possible that they will be much faster than we expected."

According to the head of Pirelli Motorsport, in 2017 the number of pit stops will be reduced, which will spur the team in an effort to find more opportunities for overtaking on the track.

"Pit stops will be smaller, - he said. - This follows directly from the fact that the tires will not wear out as quickly. However, to go into the pits still have to, because the speed is gradually everything will still fall.

But the races with the only stop in the pits will be much more. In this case, if the aerodynamics allow the pilot to follow close behind an opponent, and the tire surface in this situation will not overheat, the driver will be able to attack. In theory, this means that overtaking can be more."
