Pirelli & C. SpA company is among the companies that have signed up to the new UN Sustainable Development Goals Investment Initiative (SDG), which was launched during the 75th session of the UN General Assembly on September 21.
The move, Pirelli says, aims to ensure that the entire value chain associated with investment is more focused on achieving sustainable development goals. The CFOs of companies supporting the UN initiative are committed to implementing the principles in their organizations and to share experience and knowledge with colleagues from companies supporting the Global Compact.
According to Pirelli, the working group has now identified four key areas to focus on. These include the impact and measurement of the sustainable development goals; integrated strategies and investments in this area; integrated corporate finance SDG; and integrated communication and SDG reporting.
“Integrating SDG into corporate finance and investment is key to accelerating the achievement of global goals,” said Francesco Tanzi, Chief Financial Officer, Pirelli.
Pirelli is one of the founding members of the UN CFO Task Force on Sustainable Development, along with other key players such as BASF, Ford, Eni and Unilever. Pirelli is so far the only tire manufacturer included in the working group. The Italian company plans to play an active role in the development of directives and “pilot operations” to advance the implementation of the principles.
The UN Global Compact is a corporate initiative in the field of sustainable development, which requires participants to actively take action in this area and communicate their progress.
