Cooper Tire was among the four tire manufacturers that received awards for excellence and further improvements in occupational health and safety. Awards are awarded annually by the RMA industry association.
The Cooper plant in Tupelo, the only one of the company's production sites, was included in the list of 12 tire companies, which this year won the honorary award.
At the plant in Tupelo, which has been operating since 1984, employs about 1,600 people. The enterprise received an award in the category "Improvements".
In total, RMA awards in two categories: "Improvement" goes to businesses that were able to improve their last year's safety performance by 10%, while surpassing the industry's average 10%. In the category of "Excellence" awards are given to factories, where labor safety is 75% better than the industry as a whole.
In total, four awards are given "Excellence" and twelve "Improvement". In addition to Cooper, Michelin, Bridgestone and Goodyear have won awards.
The RMA Association awards enterprises within its program to improve working conditions launched in 1981.
