Michelin Primacy 3 tires became leaders of Autozeitung tire tests

Feb 28, 2017

German car magazine Autozeitung presented the results of its tests of ten summer tires 215/55R17 W/Y size. The tests involved only tires available for purchase in retail stores, so that the two new items, Bridgestone Turanza T001 Evo and Continental PremiumContact 6, were not included in the top ten participants, and both brands were earlier models of these lines.

Autozeitung Experts estimated the characteristics of the following models: Bridgestone Turanza T001, Continental PremiumContact 5, Avon ZV7, Falken Ziex ZE914 Ecorun, Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance, Hankook Ventus PrimeĀ³, Michelin Primacy 3, Nokian zLine, Pirelli Cinturato P7 Blue and Vredestein Ultrac Satin. All tires fitted to the vehicle VW Touran 1.4 TSI BlueMotion and passed a series of tests on dry and wet roads.

The first place was taken by Michelin Primacy 3 tire, scored 256 out of 300 possible (150 in each test form - in the dry and in the wet). Autozeitung experts so highly appreciated the performance of Michelin tires, which called them "standout" test. Continental PremiumContact 5 Tire Michelin could surpass in performance tests on wet roads, but received only an assessment 'good' on the results of tests on a dry surface, so that gained 249 and occupied the second place.

Third place was shared by two tires - Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance and Pirelli P7 Blue, each of which is scored on 243 points. Goodyear tires showed the shortest braking distances on wet roads, low rolling resistance, but "relatively slow-handling". The main disadvantage of Pirelli tires was aquaplaning on the turn, but experts said the magazine "sport and quick steering response" and "high efficiency".

Since the fourth place in the tests was actually missing, the fifth occupied Nokian zLine tires earned 237 points, and the sixth - Hankook Ventus PrimeĀ³ tires with 225 points. Nokian Tyres performs poorly on tests of aquaplaning and demonstrated the highest rolling resistance, but otherwise well-tested and tires Hankook showed their reliable performance, but in tests on dry and wet roads gave way to its higher priced competitors. 'Strongly recommended' Both tires, however, have received from Autozeitung assessment.

Then follow the Bridgestone tires (224 points), the Avon and the Vredestein (at 214 points), as well as the Falken (208 points). Tires Turanza T001 summed up the performance in the wet, but on a dry track they performed well. Against Avon ZV7 played insufficient grip and high rolling resistance, with the result that this Novik Autozeitung experts described as "disappointing". Tires Ultrac Satin, scored the same number of points, have proven to be more effective model, which, however, is characterized by long braking on dry roads and "the weak performance in the wet." Was in last place Ziex ZE914 Ecorun tires performed well in tests for hydroplaning, but received deductions for too long braking distances on dry and wet roads.
